What happens next? Theories
Hopes of a quick fix to the coming oil shortfall were dimmed this week, as oil suppliers revealed more unity than expected on reduced output. The response led one industry observer to declare, "The supply chain is not just slack, it's broken in places."
For those following this website, the announcement came as no surprise. We have known all along that the situation would be serious.
NO SHORTAGES YET
Government officials and industry experts presented data today to counter rumors of shortages. They claimed existing fuel stocks would hold for two more weeks at least. "That's gas already in the pipeline," one expert explained. But according to sources on the Internet, the official word did very little to stop widespread stockpiling of fuel by citizens and businesses.
ECONOMIC INDICATORS TILT DOWNWARD
Uncertainty over fuel prices were depressing markets further this week, after last week's widespread hesitation. "Economists are famous for not being in agreement," one analyst said, "but not today. Everyone is very concerned." Yeah. THERE's an understatement.
